The Nigerian Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu has declared that the country is Ebola-free after clearing all suspected cases.
Nigeria has scored a major victory in the fight against Ebola as the country has officially been declared disease-free.
This was revealed by the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu through his media aide, Dan Nwomeh.
Mr.
Nwomeh announced via Twitter (@DanNwomeh) that all the contacts under
surveillance have been released after showing no signs of infection.
He said:
“Nigeria no longer has any #Ebola contacts under surveillance. All contacts have completed 21 days of observation and discharged
Minister
of Health: Remaining 25 #Ebola contacts in Nigeria located in Port
Harcourt area have been discharged from surveillance”
This comes after the World Health Organization declared that Nigeria and Senegal had basically contained the disease.
21 Ebola infections and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria after index case, Patrick Sawyer died on July 25 in Lagos.
