Romance and the Dangers of Social Media

Yet another reason you shouldn’t Facebook stalk your ex:
Breakups are supposed to be the end of a relationship. Whether the end came via a fight or a fizzle, after a relationship used to end, it required some significant effort to contact an ex or figure out what was going on in his or her life. Now, social networking sites like Facebook can keep you digitally connected to exes, whether or not it’s good for you.
Social media and breakups
A growing body of research demonstrates that although we could delete that connection and “defriend” an ex, we often choose to stay virtually linked. We don’t necessarily maintain that connection due to feelings of closeness or friendship, though; users typically admit staying linked so they can “Facebook stalk” to see how an ex’s life progresses after the breakup:
Is s/he posting about the breakup?
Is s/he brooding over the relationship?
Is that song lyric or sassy quote directed at me?
Has anyone started to flirt or show romantic interest?
Is s/he dating someone new?

Before social networking sites, we’d often have to rely on updates from common friends if we wanted to get information about our exes without directly contacting them. Now, our friend Facebook is ready and willing to share this information with a few quick clicks. And Facebook will never chastise you for asking.
Although social networking sites enable you to access to such information, if you’re distressed about a breakup, it’s in your best interest not to. Ruminating too much about a terminated relationship tends to augment feelings of sadness and regret and stifle the healing process. Similarly, looking at artifacts of the relationship or “creeping” on your ex’s profile on Facebook can keep you stuck in a post-breakup funk. Research by Dr. Tara Marshall has shown that, regardless of any offline contact, following your ex’s activity on Facebook will prolong your distress, increase negative feelings, promote more longing, and postpone emotional recovery.
The role of attachment
As noted in my earlier post (you can read and take a quiz on your attachment style here), people with anxious attachment styles are more likely to engage in Facebook stalking. Thus, those with preoccupied and fearful attachment styles may be at higher risk of post-breakup distress and hindered recovery due to intensive monitoring an ex on Facebook.
The end of relationships are especially hard on those with anxious attachment styles. As Dr. Katie Warber notes, “Such individuals tend to become preoccupied with checking their ex's Facebook page. They find themselves looking at pictures and status updates—even asking friends to monitor their former partner's page—which can ultimately compound feelings of loneliness and loss.”
Your best bet, then, is not to monitor your ex on Facebook at all, especially if you have an anxious attachment style. Willpower can be lacking when you’re emotionally drained from a breakup, so even if you’re typically a limited Facebook user, you may need to figure out ways to keep yourself away from your ex’s page. Here are some options:

See The Ringing Rocks of Pennsylvania – A Famous Geological Oddity

ringing-rocks-550x412

If you strike a rock, you’d expect to hear a dull ‘thud’. Or maybe a ‘chink’. Definitely not a ringing sound. So you’d be surprised to know that ringing rocks actually do exist. Nestled in the midst of the 128-acre Ringing Rocks County Park in Pennsylvania, is a field of unique boulders. Spread out across seven to eight acres, the boulders produce a distinctive metallic ‘clang’ when struck with a hammer or another piece of rock. Native Americans have known about the rocks for centuries, and passed on their knowledge to the first White settlers in the mid-1700s

The 55-year-old Hungarian went from being a homeless tramp to a millionaire, overnight.
For seven long years, Andraschek lived in a homeless shelter in the city of Győr. “It all happened to me, I

TRAGEDY: SEE What Happened To This Couple On Their Wedding Day, With Gown On The Bride

A Georgia man, Ryan Quinton, has been charged with vehicular homicide following the death of his bride hours after their wedding reception.

The deadly crash happened in late December in Cherokee County, about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta.

The Georgia State Patrol issued a warrant for the arrest of Ryan Quinton earlier this week.

Crime lab results show his blood alcohol level on Dec. 29, the night of the crash, was .114. The legal limit in Georgia is .08.

Troopers say the deceased bride, Kali Quniton, and her husband Ryan had just left their wedding reception at the nearby Wheeler House when their sports car veered off the road and rolled down a steep embankment, trapping Kali underneath.

Chris Thomas witnessed the horrific crash.

"I'm thankful I didn't see anything other than the car," Thomas said.

Thomas said he saw Quinton stumbling along the side of the road and called 911.

"He was shaken up. He wasn't making a whole lot of sense. He was hysterical," Thomas said.

Thomas said the hardest part for him was seeing the wedding party show up and learning what happened.

"They still had their bridesmaid's gowns on and they were all dressed up for a party," Thomas said.

Cherokee County deputies said Quinton turned himself in Wednesday morning, nearly two months after the crash.

Investigators told said he initially told them he swerved to avoid a dog on the road. They have charged him with DUI, vehicular homicide and other charges.

Ryan Quinton is originally from Jasper, Ga. A judge released Quinton on $25,000 bond Wednesday night.

A Nigerian man, Chris Dikeh was found in the wheel well of a South African Airways plane that departed Dakar, Senegal and arrived the Dulles Airport in Washington D.C on Saturday.
The man is believed to have frozen to death in temperatures reaching -60°C.
Per Second News gathered from the Police that it was a South African Airways jet that was parked now in a remote part of the airport. Grounds crews found the body on Saturday afternoon.”
Airport authorities say the male body was recovered from the landing gear of the Airbus A340 belonging to South African Airways. The flight arrived in Dulles on Wednesday last week.

In a release sent to Per Second News by officials of the South African Airways and signed by SAA spokesperson Mr Tlali Tlali,” (SAA) has initiated an internal investigation into the discovery of a human body on its aircraft in Washington DC, in the United States of America”.
“Once at the Dulles International Airport in Washington DC, it was discovered that there was a fault with the landing gear of the aircraft A340-300 and the aircraft had to receive attention. It led to SAA dispatching its engineers and technicians to the US to identify the cause and to fix the fault on the aircraft”.
“During the process of conducting tests on the aircraft, SAA engineers discovered a human body in the centre wheel well”.
“SAA will offer its full cooperation to the US authorities and/or law enforcement agencies in an effort to ensure that a thorough investigation into this incident is carried out as expeditiously as possible”.
“We regret any loss of human life and are deeply concerned about the suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident and for that reason we have initiated an SAA internal investigation into the whole matter”, Tlali concluded..
According to South African Airways, the plane initially departed from Johannesburg and made one stop in Dakar, Senegal before arriving in the U.S. It’s still unclear when the body got into the wheel well of the plane.
Meanwhile, Per Second news gathered that a Pathologist, who carried out a post-mortem examination on Dikeh, said he might have died hours after take-off as oxygen levels plummeted.
Officials of the Department of Homeland Security have contacted the Embassy of Nigeria to confirm his citizenship status.

How My School Mates Were Killed – Survivor Of Yobe Massacre Speaks (PICTURED)

How My School Mates Were Killed – Survivor Of Yobe Massacre Speaks (PICTURED)

“I was shot on my left leg, while I was sleeping.  When I woke up, I could not walk and was later taken to the girls hostel where the insurgents gathered us with the female students. They selected some of the female students and went away with them, while they left some of us groaning in pain from gun shot”.
Those were the words of 14-year-old Ibrahim Musa Lampo, a JSS 2 student of Federal Government College, FGC, Bunu Yadi, Yobe State who was one of the lucky survivors of the Boko Haram massacre on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of 43 students. The insurgents also burnt the hostels, classrooms and more than 40 houses during the attack.

Ibrahim who recounted his experience while groaning in pains was receiving treatment for gunshot injuries at the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu.
His mother, Hajiya Hauwa Lampo, who was sitting beside him on the hospital bed lamented the inability of government to protect the lives of the innocent students. The mother passionately appealed to the Federal Government to “provide adequate security for all unity schools in Nigeria, particularly in the north eastern region of the country by constructing a fence that will shield the students from intruders. And if the government can not deploy adequate security personnel, they should despatch sniffer dogs into the schools to patrol every nook and corner and this will go a long way in curbing the insurgency.”
Ibrahim’s father, Mallam Musa Lampo, an immigration officer was still in shock over the incident and simply said: “I have committed everything into the hands of God.”
Boko Haram attacks
Thousands of Nigerians from the troubled North eastern states are fleeing into Niger Republic as the Boko Haram attacks heightens fears in the region.
A source in the North-East, yesterday, said tens of thousands of people have gone to Niger Republic to escape a wave of attacks and bombings by Islamist sect Boko Haram, which is fighting to carve out an Islamic country from the northern states.
The government in Niamey has granted them refugee status, but United Nations workers say it has also banned the construction of formal camps, fearing any structures could encourage an even bigger influx — or even bring fighters over the border.
“We’re living on the charity and hospitality of locals and aid organizations,” said 28-year-old Umara. “It’s difficult to feed my family. We eat once a day, twice at best.”
A spokesman for Niger’s Interior Ministry was not immediately available for comment. But Hassane Ardo Ido, General-Secretary of Diffa province, said authorities feared militants might infiltrate the camps and use them as bases. “We are trying to handle the situation and stop any act that could hurt our security,” he said.
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees, UNHCR, country representative in Niger, Karl Steinacker, said Niamey was particularly worried because most of the refugees came from the Kanuri ethnic group, a stronghold of Boko Haram.
“The authorities are worried the Nigerian insurgency might spill over into Niger,” he said.
Meanwhile, condemnations have continued to trail the massacre of the students.

This is a picture of a girl & a boy who hanged themselves on a tree because their parents refused to let them marry each other.
A disagreement between both families was what caused the parents to say No to their marriage.

My question is, saying No to their marriage by their parents is enough reason why they should take their lives?

Is this Love or Foolishness?

What do you think?

Exposed: How Native Doctors make Fast money in Delta State

It is becoming a common place in some towns in Delta state where Native Doctors are making mega box of Naira  from the sale of body parts of  unclaimed dead bodies.

Native doctors who double as ritualists, operating in Ughelli and Issoko areas of Delta State are making fast money from the sale of unclaimed corpses, investigations have revealed.

The native doctors, it was gathered, harvest vital organs of corpses, especially those of lunatics, abandoned in various places, which they sell to those in need of it, some of whom it was learnt, buy the parts to use for ritual purposes.

Their patrons, sources said, include those intending to travel abroad, commercial sex workers and job seekers.

Sources said the native doctors sell the pubic hair of the corpses at between N80,000 and N60,000 and also use the other parts to prepare a bathing solution for their patrons.

Reacting to the development, Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu lamented that the activities of ritualists and native doctors who hide under the cover of politics has been posing serious threats to peace and security in the state.

According to her, some persons who claimed to be native doctors but had been found wanting had been arrested in connection with the ritual activities while plain clothes policemen had been drafted to monitor activities of traditional medicine practitioners especially native doctors who have been allegedly involved in ritual activities, with a view to bringing them to book.

Military Protection for all Schools in North East, Order from the Senate

Following the incidence where 59 innocent school children were mercilessly slaughtered in Yobe State, the Senate Defence Committee has ordered the Nigerian Army to the North East today to provide protection.

The Senate Defence Committee, chaired by Senator George Thompson Sekibo suspended budget hearings to pass a resolution which ordered the Nigerian Army to the North East.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah was ordered to provide security for all schools and health institutions in the Boko Haram affected areas to include Maiduguri and Yobe.

General Minimah thanked the Committee for its concern and said, "...it will be the last of such from the insurgents." Continue...

The resolution, introduction by Senator Ojudu from Ekiti Central, was critical of the military's failure to pick up intelligence before the attack and its slowness to respond to the attack for five hours.

Ojudu said, "The North East calls for special attention and we should not be seating down here in Abuja discussing budget while our young ones are being slaughtered in cold blood."

It ordered the army to develop a strategy to curb to the attacks of Boko Haram using all military resources, and relocate to Maiduguri temporarily.

All schools and health institutions to be provided with special security.

And the Committee of Defense invited the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide the Armed Forces with what it needs.

The Committee of Defence will tour the three affected states when the Senate resumes it plenary.

TOUCHING: Nigerian Student with Hole in Heart Will Finally Undergo N3.47m Surgery Abroad

An 11-year-old student of Federal Government College, Gusau, Zamfara, has been diagnosed with a rare heart condition, which would be possible to fix after an estimated N3.47 million corrective surgery.

Ifeoma Igbo (pictured) was born with patent ductus arterosus (PDA) – a congenital heart condition that has left an open hole at the top of her heart.

A consultant paediatric cardiologist at Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Dr Usman Sani, narrated that the girl has been hospitalized with a “history of difficulty in breathing and lower respiratory tract infection during infancy and early childhood.”

Nothing can be done to help her locally, therefore the girl was referred her to Madras Medical Mission in Chennai, India, for surgery.

The father of the girl, Donatus Igbo, a technician based in Zamfara, revealed that the condition has hugely disrupted his daughter’s schooling. He hopes the foreign surgeons would make things right for Ifeoma.
It would be recalled that last year a two-year-old girl with PDA has successfully underwent corrective surgery at Garki Hospital in Abuja.

PDA results when a major vessel at the top of heart crucial to breathing and feeding in foetuses fails to close after birth.

The condition puts a strain on the heart, causing shortness of breath and an increased risk of cardiac arrest.

This 15-Year-Old Boy Was Exchanged For ......................... You'll Be Shocked When You Find out What

A 15-year old boy, Seun Aderinwale was successfully exchanged for two bags of rice valued at N20,000 on Monday by a yet-be-identified man.

The incident happened at Igando in Alimosho area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the man had gone to purchase 2 bags of rice from a shop owned by one Iya Ibrahim but he didn't have money so he proposed to drop Seun, an aluminium apprentice, as collateral and return later to pay. Iya Ibrahim was not available that time so her son Ibrahim who was in the shop agreed to the proposal.

She was surprised to find Seun in her shop when she returned later to learn about the exchange.

The 15-year-old boy was held hostage as the unidentified man failed to show up until later in the evening when the pastor of his church, a Celestial Church of Christ around the area, saw him at the shop looking despondent.

He was later freed after the pastor, known simply as Oluso in the neighborhood, settled the matter. He asked the shop owner to take responsibility for one of the stolen bags of rice while Seun’s father, a co-worker with him in the church, should pay for the other bag of rice.

When Seun was questioned on how he met the fraudster, he said he did not know the man’s house or have other information about him as he met him casually at Hotel Bus Stop about 300 metres to his residence where a church member had sent him on an errand to play lotto, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu”.

American Idol has been on television for almost 12 years, and after 12 years of being a profitable show, it seems like their luck has run out this year as they might actually finish with a loss.

A new report from TMZ is claiming that the show will not make any profits this year after decreased ratings.

Despite Jennifer Lopez returning to the show, and new judge Harry Connick Jr. joining the panel, ratings are down 26%.

American Idol might not make any profit this season (WENN/Nikki Nelson)

In addition to that, the show expenses might also be the cause of their lack of profit. The report also claims that Jennifer Lopez is being paid 15 million this season and Ryan Seacrest makes about the same about of money.

They are also reportedly still paying two producers who were fired last season, and the newly built set also cost between 5 to 7 million.

Despite the losses, the report also claims that the show will not be canceled next season.

The show is currently in its 13th season.

Calif. family sues Petco after 10-year-old boy dies from 'rat-bite fever'

 Rat Bite Fever Death_Cham640.jpg
A San Diego family is suing Petco after the death of their 10-year-old son from a bacterial infection they say he contracted from his pet rat.
Attorney John Gomez told The Associated Press on Tuesday that his firm filed the lawsuit Monday in San Diego County seeking an unspecified amount for the suffering endured by the Pankey family, whose son, Aidan, died June 12, 2013, hours after he was rushed to the hospital with severe stomach pains.
The San Diego County medical examiner's office ruled that the cause of death was streptobacillus moniliformis infection, commonly known as rat-bite fever, after exposure to an infected rat.
The retailer in a statement expressed its condolences.
"We are deeply saddened by the Pankey family's tragic loss," Petco said in a statement. "The health and safety of people and pets is always a top priority, and we take the family's concerns very seriously."
The boy's grandmother purchased the male rat, which Aidan named Alex, because her only grandson wanted a mate for his female rat, Gomez said. The boy took the rat home May 27, 2013, and woke up the night of June 11 in severe pain with a fever and stomach problems. He was pale, lethargic and could barely walk, according to the lawsuit. He died at 1:09 a.m. the next day.
"He was a bright, energetic, friendly, happy kid who actually had a prior rat, who was a female, and he had this idea in his young head of having his female rat get married," Gomez said.
The lawsuit was not filed until now because attorneys were awaiting the lab results from the federal Centers for Disease Control, which tested the rat to confirm it was infected, Gomez said. The agency could not immediately confirm the results Tuesday.
Gomez said the Pankey family was not giving interviews, but they are devastated by the death of their only son and want to raise awareness among parents.
"It's a means to ensure this doesn't happen again," Gomez said of the lawsuit. "Apparently there was some breakdown in procedures. They want tighter controls."
According to the lawsuit, the rat appeared safe. But the lawsuit says Petco should have known about the rodent's health and did not adequately test for the disease. It also says that negligence led to the boy's death, which has caused his parents, Andrew Pankey and Vanessa Sauer, emotional and economic hardship, and that the retailer did not post adequate warnings about the potential risks, especially for children.
Petco Animal Supplies Inc. said it is "in the process of investigating these claims and will respond appropriately when we have more information."
According to the CDC, people can contract rat-bite fever from bites or scratches from infected rodents, such as rats, mice and gerbils, or even just by handling an animal with the disease without a bite or scratch. It can also be contracted by consuming food or drink contaminated with the bacteria. It is not spread from person to person.
Antibiotics, such as penicillin, are highly effective at treating rat-bite fever, and it is rarely fatal, according to the CDC.
The CDC says those at higher risk of contracting the illness are people with pet rats or who work with rats in laboratories or pet stores, or live in rat-infested buildings. The agency recommends that people who handle rats or clean their cages wear protective gloves, wash their hands regularly and avoid touching their mouths with their hands after being in contact with rodents.
Petco also mentions preventative measures for rat-bite fever in information it posts online and provides in stores. The company warns that all rats are potential carriers and that pregnant women, children under the age of five and people with weakened immune systems should contact their doctor before buying a rat and "should consider not having a rat as a pet."
Only about 200 cases of rat-bite fever had been documented in the U.S. as of 2004, according to the Center for Food Security and Public Health at Iowa State University. Scientists believe the disease may be underdiagnosed because it is hard to detect and responds to commonly used antibiotics. But the number of cases, they say, may be increasing, especially among children, with the growing popularity of rats as pets.

Afghan women: No turning back

"Detour is not an option!" reads the Afghan Women's Charter, which was presented to the media last week in Kabul in the presence of some of Afghanistan's leading women of the post-Taliban decade. The Charter enumerates Afghan women's demands of the 11 presidential candidates competing in the April vote, the third presidential election since the US-led military intervention that ousted the Taliban in 2001.
This charter, unlike most documents of this nature, was initiated by a small group of Afghan women, with no assistance from outsiders. The fact that the authors refused to seek international assistance or funding makes the effort a symbol of breaking the vicious cycle of aid dependency. It is a message that women have consciously decided to convey at a time when international engagement is about to wind down.
Women activism
The women of Afghanistan have come a long way in the past 12 years. The post-Talban Afghan Constitution assures them equal rights and freedoms, access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities, political and social activities. Affirmative action has allowed them to occupy about 27 percent of the seats in the country's Parliament and there are three women cabinet ministers. The governor of Bamyan province, head of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commision and president of the country's Red Crescent Society have all been prominent women.
At grassroot levels, from the nearly 8 million Afghan children that attend schools, 2.4 million are girls. And according to government figures, the number of women pursuing higher education rose by 30.4 percent in 2011-2012.
In this year's presidential tickets, however, women figures are not as conspicuous as in the past two elections. This seems to be compensated by the increased activities of women activists such as the Afghan Women's Network (AWN), an umbrella organisation that boasts membership of over 100 women's institutions and 5,000 individuals, Equality for Peace and Democracy and dozens of other organisations that are conducting awareness and registration drives, human rights training sessions, and town hall meetings with candidates, etc.
The Afghan Women's Charter has now begun its journey in the media and through Afghanistan's provinces, with volunteer provincial organisations and individual activists promoting it and gathering consensus on the demands of the document.
Three women have emerged in the presidential tickets this year. Dr Zalmai Rassoul, mostly regarded as President Hamid Karzai's pick as his successor, has chosen Habiba Sarabi, former governor of Bamyan province, as his second vice presidential candidate. A hematologist by profession, she has a dignified personality and comes from an ethnic Hazara family whose prominence goes back to pre-war Afghanistan.
Being the first woman governor in the administrative history of Afghanistan, Sarabi is one of the very few high officials of the Karzai government whose name was not attached to corruption accusations all through her eight-year tenure. In some circles of women activists, though, Sarabi is criticised for acquiescing to the status quo rather than risking activism for change.

Safiya Siddiqi is running as second vice president on Hedayat Amin Arsala's ticket. Though this team is not seen as likely to win, Siddiqi has emerged as an outspoken member of the Arsala presidency campaign. The dynamic Siddiqi won a seat in the Parliament in 2005 with the third highest vote count during that parliamentary election. Having returned from her Canadian exile, she is well-rooted in Eastern Afghanistan, partly due to her family's influence among Pashtun tribes of that region and recently, due to her tireless grassroots work.
Daoud Sultanzoy, another presidential candidate in this year's vote, has picked Kazimia Mohaqiq as his vice presidential candidate. Mohaqiq has a Masters degree from Iran and has been teaching political science and law at one of Kabul's private universities.
Lack of political will
All this is not to say that Afghan women have reached an ideal stage. Nor are there any guarantees that the course of progress will steadily continue. So far, Afghan women have bravely journeyed along a bumpy and winding road, evading obstacles and potholes. Most of the progress in ameliorating the lot of Afghan women has come, for the most part, thanks to the international community's pressure and as part of the overall aid package. On the other hand, this donor-driven process has reduced women's causes to small, short-term pet projects, rather than a comprehensive and sustainable national movement.
In women's rights, as in other issues in the greater conservatism versus modernism discourse, Afghan women - and especially the young generation - have demonstrated a remarkable eagerness and willingness for change. Afghan politicians and statesmen, however, seem to lag well behind. Instead of understanding society's need and readiness for progress, instead of acknowledging the necessity of women's participation for economic, social and political progress of the country as a whole, political leaders have continued to pay lip service to the conservative and traditional elements of society.
Weak political will, perhaps lack of true belief in women's rights among leaders of state institutions and politicians, has prevented the cause to reach farther destinations.
Lack of political will is justified by "prioritisation of the country's issues", as one politician claiming to be a proponent of women's rights apologetically told me a few years ago, further elaborating that for the sake of stability, we should put women's issues on the backburner or deal with it in small increments.
Washington's overtures to terrorists for a negotiated peace since 2009 has prompted the Afghan government and opposition leaders to rush into a race to be the first party to strike a deal with the Taliban. Consequently, women's causes were sacrificed as part of their appeasement strategy.
With that history, it is surprising to see that support for women's rights figures so prominently in the speeches and programmes of all presidential hopefuls for the April election. Three of the tickets have women as vice presidential candidates and all are going through lengths to assure women that they will protect their rights.
But precisely because of that history, Afghan women and the international community must be vigilant and distinguish between true belief in women's rights and demagoguery. Candidates, their running mates, their political attachments and support bases must be scrutinised.
Through the Charter, engaging candidates in debates, awareness campaigns, calls for the formation of a united front and female voter registration drives in all corners of Afghanistan, women activists have waged an indigenous fight for the preservation of their gains and to further their achievements.
Whether the presidential contenders' lofty promises and the unprecedented attention they appear to be giving to women voters will translate into real action the day after the new president is sworn in, is uncertain. All prominent candidates have assumed a flexible posture towards the Taliban, leaving the door open for negotiations and possible power sharing arrangements as a means to reach peace and stability. Women's rights and the Taliban clearly present an oxymoron that no politician, however skilled, can reconcile.
Therefore, with all the progress of the past decade, the emerging activism of Afghan women and the attention given to women voters, it remains to be seen if the slogan "detour is not an option", will hold in the aftermath of the Afghan election.

Oscars: Who will win at the Academy Awards? Our predictions

The 86th Academy Awards will take place this Sunday (March 2), with American Hustle and Gravity tied for the most nominations with ten apiece.

It feels like the most competitive Oscars in years, as seen by a Best Picture lineup that includes the brilliant 12 Years a Slave, Martin Scorsese's debauchery-drenched financial drama The Wolf of Wall Street and small films with a lot to say like Nebraska and Philomena.

Digital Spy's movies editor Simon Reynolds, features editor Emma Dibdin and movies contributor Ben Rawson-Jones sat down to assess the highly-competitive lineup in the video above.

Pastor arrested for raping church member ‘to cleanse her of bad luck’

Nigeria-rape1 todays nigeria
A policeman who is also a practicing pastor has been arrested and charged to court on charges of rape and corruption in South Africa.
According to a police spokesman, Moses Dlamini, the pastor was said to have raped his victim a 26-year old woman on February 1.
It was gathered that the woman had gone to the pastor’s house at Seshego Zone 5 to seek help with personal problems.
iOL News reports:

The officer was said to also be a pastor in the Zion Christian Church who helped people with various problems.
“It is alleged that the suspect ordered the victim to undress and to have sexual intercourse with him as this was allegedly part of the church ritual needed to cleanse the victim of bad luck,” Dlamini said.
“The victim alleges that the suspect forced himself on her.”
Dlamini said the man then allegedly offered his commander a bribe of R3 000 after he had found out about the alleged rape. The bribe was for the commander not to report the matter to Ipid.
“It is also alleged that the suspect offered the victim R50 000 to withdraw the case.”
A trap was set for the man and he was arrested when he allegedly came to pay off his senior officer.
Dlamini said the unit was investigating allegations that other police officers were paid off by the man not to report the rape to Ipid.
“He was granted bail of R2000 and the case was postponed to 14 April 2014,” said Dlamini.
