UK’s Minister for Africa Mark Simmonds is in Nigeria to represent Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth at the Nigerian centenary celebrations.
The celebrations led by President Goodluck Jonathan, will be held on
27th February 2014 at the National Stadium in Abuja. They will
commemorate the 100 years of Nigeria's existence as a nation.
The theme of the celebrations is “One Nigeria, Great Promise” while
the vision is “To project a united, vibrant and progressive nation that
is ready to be a world leader”.
Mr Simmonds will deliver a keynote speech at the centenary event on the potential for Africa and Nigeria’s future.
During his four-day visit to Nigeria, Mr Simmonds will also visit
Lagos for a meeting with Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. He will also
visit British business at Port Harcourt to discuss opportunities and
challenges in the Niger Delta.
“I am excited to be making my second visit to Nigeria and I am
looking forward to representing the British Government at the 100 years
celebrations. I bring with me the best wishes of the British people,
including a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,” Mr Simmonds said
ahead of the visit to Nigeria.
