First lady gives ultimatum on rescue of girls

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has blamed of the abduction of 234 secondary school girls while writing exams in Chibok, Borno State on the state government.
She made the accusation on Friday night during a meeting on the incident  with wives of state governors, women opinion leaders, leaders of key women organizations and relevant women stakeholders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The First lady said the state government should be held responsible for the missing girls after the Head of WAEC National Office, Mr. Charles Eguridu revealed at the meeting that the Ministry of Education in the state refused to move all WASCE candidates in the state to Maiduguri as demanded in a letter written in March by the Minister of Education to the Ministry.
The state government reportedly replied that it had adequate security in school.

The first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has promised to stage a protest match to Chibok, Borno, if the abducted schoolgirls were not released.

Jonathan said this in Abuja after a meeting with governors’ and ministers’ wives, female senators, commissioners and more than 200 women from various groups at the State House in Abuja.‎

The meeting was to seek the actual whereabouts of the kidnapped girls.

According to her, a committee will be inaugurated to include wives of all relevant stakeholders at a meeting scheduled for May 4.

She said that refusal of any of such relevant stakeholders to be contacted for the meeting would also lead to a mass protest.

Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force has challenged the leader of Boko Haram Islamic militant sect, Abubakar Shekau, following statement he allegedly made threatening the Niger Delta region and President Goodluck Jonathan.
Asari-Dokubo, who was speaking on Thursday night at a strategic partnership session with ex-militant leaders organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission, said “2015 is more than do-or-die. It is our very survival that is being challenged; it is our very existence that is being challenged.”
He reportedly said, “They are starting oo! Shekau (Boko Haram leader) said in his video that we should not play with them. He said ‘Goodluck, I am coming for you. Niger Delta, we are coming for you.’ Are we going to allow them? They will shoot the guns; throw the bombs and that is when we will dance.

7 suspected armed robbers arrested in Lagos

The police in Lagos arrested seven suspected armed robbers between April 24 and April 30.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Ngozi Braide, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.

Braide said three of the suspects were apprehended at Oko-Oba Area on April 26 after a tip-off and a gun duel with the gang.

She said that two locally-made pistols, two live cartridges and a Bajaj Motorcycle snatched from the owner by the suspects were recovered.

She said that two other suspected robbers were arrested by Victoria Island Police Division at about 11.35 p.m. during a stop and search operation.

Will Jonathan go to Sambisa forest?

It is indeed pertinent to ask if President Goodluck Jonathan, the armed forces over which he presides as Commander-in-Chief, and other security agencies, will go after the terrorists that abducted more than 200 teenage girls into their hideout in Sambisa Forest, in Borno State.
That question can be posed in another way: Can President Goodluck Jonathan go into Sambisa Forest? The point is that the question of willingness is closely allied to that of capability. But before one goes on to look at the issue of capability, it is important first to settle that of willingness because that is at the very heart of President Jonathan’s administration’s strategy towards prosecuting our own battle against terror.
From the very beginning when the terror insurgents resurfaced during his administration, President Jonathan had showed himself incapable of rising to the challenge. David Mark leads 21 others to meet Jonathan tonight

The senate president, David Mark and 21 other senators are to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan on the abduction of 234 girls by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on April 14, in Chibok, Borno state.
Senator Mark, who announced this meeting during Wednesday’s plenary, said the meeting scheduled for today is aimed at finding ways to rescue the affected girls and end insurgency in the nation.

He said the meeting was slated for 10 p.m and would hold at the  Aso Rock Villa.

Earlier today several women marched to Abuja  under the aegis of “Women for Peace and Justice” to protest for the return of the abducted school girls.

The Senate had on Tuesday resolved to ask the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure immediate rescue of the abducted female students.
It also urged the Federal Government to seek the assistance of ECOWAS and the UN for modern equipment to aid the search and rescue.
Members of the delegation include Senators Boluwaji Kunlere, Babafemi Ojudu, Zainab Kure, Alkali Jajere, James Manager, Helen Esuene and Chris Anyanwu,
Others are Ali Ndume, Ahmed Zannah, Maina Lawan, Ahmed Makarfi, Mohammed Magoro, Ahmed Lawan and Ahmed Barata.
The remaining are Barnabas Gemade, Sola Adeyeye, Bindowo Jibrilla, Ehigie Uzamere, Bello Tukur, Bukar Ibrahim and Uche Chukwumerije.
It is expected that the meeting will also afford senators from the affected areas opportunity to relay intelligence at their disposal to the President.

Why Jonathan sacked Ahmed Gulak – PDP chairman reveals

The recent sack of Ahmed Gulak, President Goodluck Jonathan’s political adviser was received with shock as he was believed to be one of the president’s most loyal advisers.
However, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu’azu has revealed that Gulak was sacked due to his unsavoury character traits.
The PDP chairman is said to have stated yesterday that the former adviser to the president on political matters was sacked due to his arrogance and his irrational disposition.
Mu’azu declared this in Abuja during a meeting with some members of the Akwa Ibom PDP executive committee.

The party chair said he had agreed with the President that there would be no room for arrogant officials in the cabinet, adding that they must remain focused and committed to retain their positions.
Gulak was sacked on Tuesday without the Presidency stating reasons for the action. Gulak was in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, last week to inaugurate the Goodluck Support Group (GSG) with a faction of the PDP.
Governor Godswill Akpabio objected to Gulak’s action, saying he was not informed of the visit by the ex-presidential aide. The governor also protested that Gulak met with party chieftains who were opposed to his administration.
He urged the President to punish Gulak.

Pastor vomits live snake during deliverance

A Ghanaian pastor was alleged to have vomited a live snake at the shrine of a fetish priest leaving residents of the area stunned.

According to reports, the pastor (name withheld) who is known for performing miracles had established a number of churches with thousands of congregants in Ghana and abroad.

It was gathered that the pastor had been performing the miracles and rendering other pastoral services with a snake inside his belly – which is purported to be the source of his spiritual powers. Don’t ask how possible that is, that beats us too but the Daily Guide appears to believe it.

The pastor, according to sources, went to a native doctor outside the country some time ago and was asked to drink some concoction, which turned into a snake, causing his belly to swell up.

The sources disclosed that after the pastor had tried a lot of medications to get his belly reduced in vain, his wife also tried her best to assist her husband but there was no solution to his predicament, and so she decided to consult a fetish priest.

This paper learnt that Togbe Shito, the fetish priest, ordered the pastor to take some concoction in the form of water and thereafter, he began to vomit the live snake, causing his wife to collapse.

When DAILY GUIDE spoke to Togbe Shito, he confirmed that the pastor went for juju to operate his churches, which was in the form of a snake.

He said, during incantations, the dwarfs he used revealed to him what the pastor had done and after the reptile had come out, it was burnt.

Releasing Names & Pictures of Abducted School Girls could put their lives at risk-Borno State Government

There have been calls for the release of names and photos of the abducted 234 girls in Borno state. Yesterday, Mrs Kema Chinwe was reported to have demanded the evidence that the girls were abducted.

In a statement by the Governor's Special Adviser on Media, Isa Gusau gives their reason for withholding the details 

"The Borno State Government has a comprehensive data that includes pictures of the missing students and those that returned, which the Government is ready to publish on Friday, May 2, 2014 if the Defence Headquarters which has since been managing information on counter insurgency operations in the Northeast, gives the go ahead and Mrs Chikwe, who now knows more than the security can ensure that.
Our fear is not to reveal names that would reveal religion and family backgrounds which could at the end, compromise the safety of these girls; provide basis for families to be reached with demands for ransom or be accused of undermining rescue efforts or sensationalism.
In addition to these, abduction of girls are sometimes interpreted to mean automatic rape, where the identity of these are revealed, they could be stigmatized even after being rescued."
